Ingredients:
For the Marinade:
- 500 grams boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- Salt to taste
For the Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped (adjust to your spice preference)
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 cup tomato puree
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions:
Marinate the Chicken:
- Combine the yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and salt in a bowl to make the marinade.
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and mix well to coat the chicken evenly.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse into the chicken.
Cook the Chicken:
- Heat oil in a pan or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the marinated chicken pieces and cook until they are browned and cooked through. This should take about 8-10 minutes. Set aside.
Prepare the Sauce:
- In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions become translucent.
- Add ginger-garlic paste, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and turmeric powder. Cook for a couple of minutes until the raw smell disappears and the spices are well-roasted.
- Pour in the tomato puree and cook for a few more minutes until the oil begins to separate from the sauce.
- Return the cooked chicken to the pan and mix well with the sauce. Cook for another 5-7 minutes to allow the chicken to absorb the flavors.
- Adjust the salt and spice levels according to your taste.
- Finish the dish by adding chopped coriander leaves, mint leaves, and lemon juice. Mix well.
- Serve hot with naan, rice, or roti.
Enjoy your homemade Patakha Chicken, and be prepared for a burst of spicy flavors! Adjust the spice level to suit your preference by increasing or decreasing the amount of chili powder and green chilies.
