Here's a delicious recipe for cheesy breadsticks:
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the topping:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Stir the ingredients together until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. You may need to add a little extra flour if the dough is too sticky.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Shape the Breadsticks:
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into a rope-like shape, about 9-10 inches long.
- Place the dough ropes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Add the Topping:
- Brush the breadsticks with melted butter.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the breadsticks.
- Combine the garlic powder, dried oregano, and dried basil, and sprinkle this mixture over the cheese.
Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two.
- Enjoy your homemade cheesy breadsticks as a delightful appetizer or snack!
