Cheesy Breadsticks

Here's a delicious recipe for cheesy breadsticks:

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  1. 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  2. 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  3. 1 teaspoon sugar
  4. 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  5. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  6. 1 teaspoon salt

For the topping:

  1. 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  2. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  3. 2 tablespoons melted butter
  4. 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  5. 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  6. 1/2 teaspoon dried basil

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  • Stir the ingredients together until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. You may need to add a little extra flour if the dough is too sticky.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

Shape the Breadsticks:

  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions.
  • Roll each portion into a rope-like shape, about 9-10 inches long.
  • Place the dough ropes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Add the Topping:

  • Brush the breadsticks with melted butter.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the breadsticks.
  • Combine the garlic powder, dried oregano, and dried basil, and sprinkle this mixture over the cheese.

Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.

Serve:

  • Remove from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two.
  • Enjoy your homemade cheesy breadsticks as a delightful appetizer or snack!
