Here's a recipe for making Fried Bread Rolls, which are often filled with a delicious stuffing. In this example, we'll make potato-filled bread rolls, a popular snack in many cuisines.
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup warm water
For the Filling:
2 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
1 small onion, finely chopped
1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to your spice preference)
1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste (optional)
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon garam masala (or your favorite spice blend)
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (optional)
Oil for frying
Instructions:
For the Dough:
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
Gradually add the vegetable oil and warm water while mixing until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. If it's too sticky, you can add a bit more flour.
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
For the Filling:
Heat a tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium heat.
Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
Add the ginger-garlic paste (if using) and green chilies. Sauté for another minute.
Add the turmeric powder, garam masala, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
Add the mashed potatoes and chopped coriander leaves (if using). Mix the filling thoroughly, ensuring that the spices are evenly distributed. Cook for a few minutes until the filling is heated through. Remove it from the heat and let it cool.
Assembling and Frying:
Divide the rested dough into small, equal-sized portions (about golf ball-sized).
Roll each portion into a small disc, similar to a small tortilla.
Place a spoonful of the potato filling in the center of each disc.
Fold the sides of the dough over the filling to form a roll. Ensure that the edges are sealed properly so that the filling doesn't come out during frying.
Heat oil in a deep frying pan or a deep fryer to around 350°F (175°C).
Carefully slide the stuffed bread rolls into the hot oil, a few at a time, without overcrowding the pan.
Fry the rolls until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides, turning them occasionally to ensure even frying.
Once fried, use a slotted spoon to remove the rolls from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
Serve the hot fried bread rolls with ketchup, chutney, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Enjoy your homemade fried bread rolls with a delicious potato filling!
