Chicken Lollipop

Chicken lollipops are a popular appetizer or snack made from chicken wings. They're typically deep-fried and coated in a flavorful sauce. Here's a basic recipe for making chicken lollipops:

Ingredients:

For the Chicken Lollipops:

  • 12 chicken wings
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Marinade:

  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon red chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg

For the Coating:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon red chili sauce (adjust to your spice preference)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (for thickening)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken Lollipops:

    • To make chicken lollipops, first, clean the chicken wings by removing the skin and extra flesh around the bone. Push the meat down to form a "lollipop" shape.
  2. Marinate the Chicken:

    • In a bowl, mix together the ginger-garlic paste, soy sauce, red chili sauce, vinegar, salt, black pepper, and egg.
    • Coat the chicken lollipops evenly with this marinade, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight is best).
  3. Prepare the Coating:

    • In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, red chili powder, and salt.
    • Add water gradually to make a thick batter, similar to pancake batter.
  4. Coat and Fry the Chicken:

    • Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pan to 350°F (175°C).
    • Dip each marinated chicken lollipop into the batter to coat it completely.
    • Carefully lower the chicken lollipop into the hot oil and deep-fry until they are golden brown and crispy, about 8-10 minutes.
    • Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  5. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In a separate pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil and sauté the minced garlic, chopped onion, and bell pepper until they become soft.
    • Add soy sauce, tomato ketchup, red chili sauce, salt, pepper, and sugar. Stir well.
  6. Finish the Dish:

    • Add water and let the sauce simmer for a couple of minutes.
    • Thicken the sauce by adding the cornstarch-water mixture and stirring until it thickens.
  7. Coat the Chicken with Sauce:

    • Toss the fried chicken lollipops in the sauce until they are evenly coated.
  8. Serve:

    • Serve the chicken lollipops hot, garnished with chopped spring onions or sesame seeds, if desired.

Enjoy your homemade chicken lollipops!
