Chicken lollipops are a popular appetizer or snack made from chicken wings. They're typically deep-fried and coated in a flavorful sauce. Here's a basic recipe for making chicken lollipops:
Ingredients:
For the Chicken Lollipops:
- 12 chicken wings
- Oil for deep frying
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Marinade:
- 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon red chili sauce
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg
For the Coating:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
For the Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
- 1 teaspoon red chili sauce (adjust to your spice preference)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (for thickening)
Instructions:
Prepare the Chicken Lollipops:
- To make chicken lollipops, first, clean the chicken wings by removing the skin and extra flesh around the bone. Push the meat down to form a "lollipop" shape.
Marinate the Chicken:
- In a bowl, mix together the ginger-garlic paste, soy sauce, red chili sauce, vinegar, salt, black pepper, and egg.
- Coat the chicken lollipops evenly with this marinade, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight is best).
Prepare the Coating:
- In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, red chili powder, and salt.
- Add water gradually to make a thick batter, similar to pancake batter.
Coat and Fry the Chicken:
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each marinated chicken lollipop into the batter to coat it completely.
- Carefully lower the chicken lollipop into the hot oil and deep-fry until they are golden brown and crispy, about 8-10 minutes.
- Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Prepare the Sauce:
- In a separate pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil and sauté the minced garlic, chopped onion, and bell pepper until they become soft.
- Add soy sauce, tomato ketchup, red chili sauce, salt, pepper, and sugar. Stir well.
Finish the Dish:
- Add water and let the sauce simmer for a couple of minutes.
- Thicken the sauce by adding the cornstarch-water mixture and stirring until it thickens.
Coat the Chicken with Sauce:
- Toss the fried chicken lollipops in the sauce until they are evenly coated.
Serve:
- Serve the chicken lollipops hot, garnished with chopped spring onions or sesame seeds, if desired.
Enjoy your homemade chicken lollipops!
