Biscuits

Baking biscuits at home is a delicious and rewarding experience. Here's a basic recipe for making homemade biscuits:

Ingredients:
  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 tablespoon baking powder
  3. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  4. 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  5. 3/4 cup cold milk

Instructions:

Preheat your oven:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This ensures that the oven is hot and ready when you're finished preparing the dough.

Prepare your baking sheet:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent the biscuits from sticking.

Mix dry ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Make sure these dry ingredients are well combined.

Add cold butter:
Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. This process helps create a flaky texture in the biscuits.

Add cold milk:
Pour the cold milk into the flour-butter mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together. It's important not to overmix; just mix until the ingredients are combined.

Knead the dough:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times to bring it together, but again, be careful not to overwork it.

Roll out the dough:
Roll the dough out to about 1/2-inch (1.25 cm) thickness. You can use a rolling pin for this.

Cut out the biscuits:
Using a round biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass, cut out biscuits from the rolled dough. Press straight down and lift, avoid twisting the cutter to ensure the biscuits rise evenly.

Arrange on the baking sheet:
Place the cut biscuits onto your prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.

Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top and have risen.

Serve:
Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve them warm with butter, jam, or your favorite toppings.

Enjoy your homemade biscuits! You can also get creative by adding ingredients like grated cheese, herbs, or even bacon bits to the dough for extra flavor.
